192 DVSA theory test centres · 2025–26
Theory test pass rates by centre, 2025–26
44.8% of the 2,924,426 car theory tests taken in Great Britain from April 2025 to March 2026 were passes. Among centres with 2,000 or more tests, rates ran from 54.0% at Guildford to 37.5% at Bradford. Every candidate sits the same computer-based test, so the gap says more about who tests where than about the centre; more below.

Where the theory centres are
Each dot is a theory test centre, shaded by its 2025–26 car theory pass rate. You can book a theory test at any centre in Great Britain, not only the one nearest your home, and it doesn't have to be near the centre where you'll take your driving test.

Car theory tests, April 2025 to March 2026. On year: change in points from 2024–25, shown when both years had 200+ tests. "Fewer tests" marks centres under 2,000, left out of the rankings. Region and nearest driving test centre (within 25 miles, straight line) are ours, for finding your way; DVSA doesn't group theory centres by region. Source: DVSA table DRT112A, OGL v3.0; addresses from GOV.UK's theory test centre finder.
What a theory pass rate can and can't tell you
The theory test is the same everywhere: questions on a screen, marked by the computer. A centre can't be easier or harder in the way a driving test route can. Differences between centres come from who books there: how old they are, how long they've prepared, and how many are on a second or third attempt. Big city centres also take candidates from a wide area.
The car theory test has two parts and you need to pass both at the same sitting: 50 multiple-choice questions (pass mark 43) and 14 hazard perception clips (pass mark 44 out of 75). A pass certificate lasts two years, so you need to pass your driving test within that time. Booking, costs and what to take are on GOV.UK.
Practical test pass rates do vary by centre, and so do waiting times: see driving test pass rates by centre and the waiting time league table. Each driving test centre page also names its nearest theory centre.
